Data Shows Historical Disparities in STD Rates

Since at least 2009, disparities have existed in rates of sexually transmitted diseases across the California.

African American young people ages 10 to 19 had the highest rates of chlamydia between 2009 and 2015, according to data from the California Department of Public Health posted by Kidsdata.

Proposed Ban on Flavored Tobacco in San Francisco Expected on Ballot Next Summer

A new regulation that had been signed into law called for a ban, effective April 2018, on sales of flavored tobacco including menthol cigarettes, flavored liquid for e-cigarettes and flavored chewing tobacco. While a tobacco giant-backed group gathered enough signatures to require the ban be voted on during an upcoming election, they aren’t the only ones opposed to the ban. A promotora typically receives specialized training to provide information to residents in the Latino communities in which they live. Promotoras make house calls, go to PTA meetings and offer informal presentations in school classrooms.
